Three Entities Make A History
Bebe Miller grew up in Brooklyn, New York and started taking ballet classes at age 13 in the world-famous Carnegie Hall; however, she stopped attending because she “didn’t fit in.” Today, Miller has over 25 years of choreographic experience under her belt, and her very own Bebe Miller Company to show for it. Over the years, Miller has collaborated with a wide panel of talented artists, including dancers, videographers, and installation artists, many of whom she incorporates into A History.
This evening-length duet stars Angie Hauser and Darrell Jones, two long-time Bebe Miller Company collaborators, who take the stage – live, and virtually – in an interactive performance of dynamic exposure. A History is not complete without the video by Lily Skove and installation by Maya Ciarrocchi, which collectively invite the audience to submerse themselves into the physical sensations of the dance.

Bebe Miller Company is known for creative exploration with body movement as way to convey thoughts, experience, and beauty. In A History, Hauser and Jones expose the dynamics of movement, and bring audiences along for the thematic journey. This piece integrates an “interactive spontaneity,” transforming choreography into vibrant artwork.

Lily Skove makes inspired use of interactive video as a way to illustrate Miller’s choreographic process. Members of the audience get a first-hand look at this development through recorded conversations and archival ephemera. Skove’s video in A History is evidence of this nimble creative process.
Behold Installation
The media installations in A History act as a bind that ties together the movement and the emotion conjured. The audience is invited to connect with their own creative partnerships as they witness the strategic dance “tracks” throughout this work.
