Full Time Assistant Director, Dining Services II

Chartwells in Northrop at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Dining Services II to oversee and enhance our food and beverage operations. This role encompasses managing concessions during performances, daily operations of our on-site bistro and coffee shop, and coordinating all in-house catering services. The Assistant Director will lead a team of associates, focusing on talent development, client relationship management, and achieving financial objectives. Key responsibilities include collaborating with the chef and management team to create nutritious, high-quality food; implementing new culinary programs alongside marketing and culinary teams; maintaining excellent client relationships; and managing, training, and developing associates. 

Candidates should have 1–3 years of food service supervisory or lead experience in settings such as restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, or healthcare. Strong leadership, communication, and financial acumen skills are essential, along with proficiency in MS Office products. An associate's degree is preferred. The position offers a salary range of $65,000 to $75,000, along with benefits such as paid parking, complimentary shift meals, and a safety shoe allowance. Work hours vary, including days, nights, weekdays, and weekends.

Northrop Pre-Show Performance Opportunities 

Northrop is seeking passionate, skilled musicians to create a welcoming and engaging ambiance for patrons before select Northrop Presents performances. This paid opportunity, which includes complimentary tickets to the associated performance, is excellent for students seeking professional experience or established musicians looking to reach new audiences.

Program Details:

Spring 2025 Pre-Performance Opportunities:

  • BalletMet: We are hiring a classical ensemble to perform pre-show music for BalletMet’s performance on the evening of March 28, 2025. Lauded for its versatility and innovative repertory, Columbus, OH based BalletMet will grace the stage with Timeless Tide. Set to an original score by Michel Banabila, it is the latest work from acclaimed artistic director, dancer, and choreographer Yue Yin. The program will also feature world-renowned choreographer Edwaard Liang’s Seasons, inspired by Max Richter’s reimagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The ensemble's payment for the night will be $300. Complimentary tickets to the 7:30pm performance will also be included.
  • American Ballet Theatre: Northrop will hire a jazz ensemble to perform pre-show music for ABT’s performance on the evening of Apr 18 and the afternoon of Apr 19, for Northrop’s post-show ENCORE Gala. ABT’s performance of the classic storybook ballet – Giselle, the epitome of Romantic ballet,  fuses live music movement and drama. Following the matinee on Apr 19, the ensemble will also play during Northrop’s annual Encore Gala, a festive social hour for patrons to celebrate with dancers of American Ballet Theatre. The ensemble's payment for the pre-show performance and Northrop Gala’s is $900. Complimentary tickets to one of the performances will also be included.

Ensembles will be featured on Northrop’s social media and website leading up to the event!

Graphic Design Intern

The Graphic Design Intern is a member of the Business Development & Customer Support team and supports a variety of design and other projects that support the mission of Northrop while giving the intern opportunities to learn and explore new skills. Job duties support Northrop’s programming of dance, music, comedy, and live podcast performances; films; and academic and engagement activities with goals of increasing visibility, deepening engagement, selling tickets, driving attendance, fundraising, and contributing to arts education. The Graphic Design Intern follows all Northrop and UMN brand and style guides, and upholds the mission, vision, and values of Northrop and the UMN at all times.

This is a part-time, ongoing, flexible, $15.25/hr UMN student position. The Intern works 10-20 hours per week, arranged around the student’s schedule between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday–Friday during the academic year, and during summer and school breaks based on the needs of the department and student’s availability. This position requires some weekend and/or evening hours as needed, based on the schedule of Northrop’s events.

Marketing Intern

The Business Development and Support team at Northrop is seeking a creative Marketing Intern to assist with a variety of projects that support Northrop’s performing arts and event programming. Duties include executing brand-consistent marketing and communications strategies via social media and other outlets to meet engagement goals, while upholding the values and mission of Northrop and the University of Minnesota. This is a flexible part-time position–10-20 hours per week, arranged between 8:00 am-5:00 pm on Mon-Fri. The pay is $15.25 per hour. Applicants must be currently enrolled at the UMN and majoring in marketing, sales, communications, performing arts, or a related field. The capacity to work occasional weekends and/or evenings, as needed, is also required.
