SW!NG OUT: Fun Facts

A 2011 Bessie Award-winner for Outstanding Individual Performance, and one of Dance Magazine’s 2012 “25 to Watch,” SW!NG OUT’s Caleb Teicher began their career as a founding member of tap company and past Northrop performer Dorrance Dance, while also freelancing in contemporary dance.

In 2018 at Dance Lab NY, Teicher choreographed their own take on selections from the Technicolor musical film Summer Stock starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. Take a peek as Teicher brings this film to the stage.

SW!NG OUT is on the scene! Braintrust member LaTasha Barnes lit up Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out stage with her ensemble The Jazz Continuum, and Evita Arce starred in the Swing documentary, Alive and Kicking, while SW!NG OUT dancer Mikey Pedroza was featured in the Jon Batiste video I NEED YOU.

Inspired by their live outdoor performances in New York City on Sunday afternoons throughout the pandemic, The Eyal Vilner Big Band just released the album, Live in Washington Square Park!

This presentation of SW!NG OUT is a world premiere, created as part of Northrop’s Centennial Commissions program—supporting artists whose performances were postponed and cancelled because of COVID-19.
