A Storybook Halloween

Halloween is this weekend, and you don't have a costume? Now there's a scary thought.

Not to worry, Northrop has some inspiration for you. Trick-or-Treating with a plus one? Perfect, we have costume ideas for singles, pairs, and even groups of seven (dwarves that is).

Upcoming performances of Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Wonderland, and Ballet Preljocaj's Snow White are dripping with costume creations for all. Both dance companies have made their mark by re-telling classic storybook tales, but with a bit of flair. We suggest you do the same.

Would you like to be treated like a Queen? Then we recommend The Queen of Hearts from Wonderland. This woman is a tyrant. She is authoritative, dominant, wears a fabulous dress. Not to mention, she walks the streets yelling things like "Off with her head!"

Or, perhaps you want to act Mad as a Hatter? The Hatter from Wonderland is wacky character, topped with an oversized hat and an even bigger personality. Other character ideas from Wonderland are the dim-witted pair, Tweedledum & Tweedledee, the dazed Caterpillar, the curious Cheshire Cat, or the hasty White Rabbit.

Snow White also comes packed with a wardrobe of costume ideas. Think you have what it takes to play a Prince for a night? Maybe you have six other friends who just happen to have qualities like The Seven Dwarfs: Doc, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey, and Grumpy.

If you are feeling a little wicked, then you should be Queen Grimhilde, the sinister, stately beauty, and one of the greatest villains of all time.

Now, these characters have been played before, and we do not advocate dressing as the typical Disney version. Get creative and have a little fun! To see examples of attire and outfit ideas, check out the photos of Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Ballet Preljocaj under the Media Tab.
