DAILY INSPIRATIONS ENCOURAGE FREEDOM FOR ALL
Northrop started this week’s Daily Inspirations with Mitchell Rose’s latest “chain letter” dance video, And So Say All of Us. This video was created by Rose and 52 choreographers including many Northrop Presents artists. If you like this video, you should also check out Rose and 42 choreographers in Exquisite Corps.
On Tuesday, we celebrated with Ballet Hispanico in honor of their 50th anniversary for an evening titled Noches Unidos. This hour-long online gala (still available on the company’s website) included 10 dance premieres and guest appearances by a star-studded list including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gloria Estefan, Arturo O’Farrill, and Rita Moreno.
During the rainy mid-week we shared Ray LaMontagne’s new album, MONOVISION. Ray LaMontagne is one of my go-to artists for a rainy day, and we enjoyed remembering his performance at Northrop in 2014.
We ended the week with a couple of options for you to get moving and exercise your creative spirit this week. If you’d like to expand your foundational modern dance repertoire, you can use this New York Times article to learn Merce Cunningham’s solo “50 Looks” as taught by Patricia Lent. If time is of the essence, you can spend 8 minutes in a basic tap class created by Leonardo Sandoval of Dorrance Dance as an offering for International Dance Day.
I hope that your plans for the weekend include some time to move, and I encourage you to keep working for freedom for all, in a way that’s meaningful to you. See you next week!
