Grades 6-12
Havana-based Malpaso Dance Company visits Northrop with a program that celebrates international collaboration. These sleek dancers turn up the island heat in the Afro-Cuban work, Why You Follow, by Ronald K. Brown. For the Malpaso dancers, it’s a Minnesota debut—but for Artistic Director Osnel Delgado, it’s a reunion with Minneapolis-based Zenon Dance Company, who hosted his McKnight International Fellowship. Zenon will join the program to perform Delgado’s Coming Home, the baseball-inspired work he created just for them in 2014. Together, these two companies offer an exciting dance “double-header” for our season opener.
Malpaso Dance Company is an Associate Company of Joyce Theater Productions.
"With joints like liquid, they seem to float on and off stage without a single sound. But like most ballerinas, the articulation through their limbs was precise as a puzzle." -Pittsburgh Examiner
