Martín Santangelo, Artistic Director
Under the direction of Martín Santangelo, award-winning Noche Flamenca is Spain’s most successful touring company, and is recognized as the most authentic flamenco touring company in the field today. Formed in 1993 by Santangelo and his Bessie award-winning wife, Soledad Barrio, the company regularly tours around the globe, hailed by critics everywhere for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances. "Quebradas - Inspired by Rosa" (Soledad's mother), features Soledad Barrio, original music, and original song in a tribute to all mothers and women. Quebradas translates into "women turning themselves inside out," and is also a dance term that refers to a specific turn which only women execute, requiring women to rotate around their own torso. At its essence, the piece is about repression and liberation of women, and how they find strength within themselves.
POST-PERFORMANCE CONVERSATIONConnect with the dance company’s artists for a Q & A immediately following each Women of Substance performance from the stage of The O’Shaughnessy.
