Reframing Mass Violence
A Thursdays at Four event
Past event
Apr 10, 2014
Panel discussion organized by the IAS research collaborative Reframing Mass Violence. Participants include Leigh Payne (University of Oxford), Ana Forcinito (Spanish and Portuguese Studies, U of M), and Alejandro Baer (Director, Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies, U of M).
The panel will shed light on the most substantial transformations and the continuities in Argentina’s social memory of its recent past. We will address the processes that led Argentina's Truth Commission Report Nunca Más (1984) to become the canonical way the disappearances and the country’s political violence is publically remembered, and how its meaning has been modified by new interpretations in the last two decades.
