Ornette Coleman Quartet

Past event
Apr 22, 2005

One of the towering creative figures of our times, Ornette Coleman changed how we think about music, what is beautiful and what is possible. Like other prime architects of jazz, Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker, Coleman sent American music into a new orbit. His live performances in the U.S. nowadays are rare. This monumental occasion celebrates his 75th birthday with Denardo Coleman on drums and bassists Greg Cohen and Tony Falanga — the highlight of the Walker's three-day Dancing In Your Head Coleman Festival.

Critic's Comments

"Harsh yet jubilant, alienated yet benevolent...Coleman's music remains so singular that, forty years after his debut recordings, I still can't hear it without marveling anew."
- Gary Giddins, Village Voice
