It’s a rare treat when New York City Ballet dancers take the Northrop stage. This select group of performers from New York City Ballet's outstanding roster of principal dancers, soloists, corps members, and musicians, performs a stunning program of five different ballets, with four performed to live music.
George Balanchine’s Sonatine is a rarely seen pas de deux of polished simplicity and emotional interplay, and Jerome Robbins’ In The Night visits three couples, each at different points in their romantic relationships. These true classics from New York City Ballet’s founding choreographers are complemented by works from a new generation, including Justin Peck’s first ballet for NYCB, In Creases, showcasing his keen wit and musicality. Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain Pas de Deux is an achingly beautiful expression of tenderness and longing, and Angelin Preljocaj’s La Stravaganza juxtaposes 17th-century sensibility with modern culture, while contrasting classical and electronic accompaniment.
“A chance like this to see la crème de la crème (of NYCB) doesn’t come often!” –Charleston Today
