Mingus Big Band

Past event

The 14-member band growing the legacy of the late composer/bassist Charles Mingus focuses on the subject of love in Mingus's musical mind for this 'Tonight at Noon' concert. Tenor saxophonist John Stubblefield, playing with the Mingus Big Band, a Thursday night regular at the Time Café in New York City since 1991, commented one evening, "People think of Mingus music as boisterous and full of explosive energy. They forget he wrote a lot of beautiful ballads." This observation set wheels in motion for a new CD and now a tour.
