Oct 28, 2006

In the 40 years since he played with John Coltrane’s revered quartet, piano great McCoy Tyner has explored his destiny as a composer and bandleader. All the while, his singular blues-based style with big block chords and a percussive left hand has expanded the musical landscape. In this stellar concert, Tyner’s hand-picked septet includes Eric Alexander, tenor saxophone; Donald Harrison, alto saxophone; Steve Turre, trombone; Wallace Roney, trumpet; Charnett Moffett, bass; and Eric Gravatt, drums. They’ll be featuring classics from Impulse! Records’ illustrious catalogue from 1960-74.
