Maria Schneider’s latest recording, Concert in the Garden, won the 2005 Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album - yet another confirmation that her star as a notable composer-conductor is soaring ever upward. The CD, praised for “reaching a new level of beauty and complexity,” includes “Bulería Soleá y Rumba” that was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center. Schneider, one of the University of Minnesota ’s most accomplished music graduates, writes with enormous creativity and painterly lushness.
