“Her pieces meld imagination, logic and passion into fantastic opuses alive with melodic twists and splashes of musical colour.”– The Ottawa Citizen

Maria Schneider’s latest recording, Concert in the Garden, won the 2005 Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album - yet another confirmation that her star as a notable composer-conductor is soaring ever upward. The CD, praised for “reaching a new level of beauty and complexity,” includes “Bulería Soleá y Rumba” that was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center. Schneider, one of the University of Minnesota ’s most accomplished music graduates, writes with enormous creativity and painterly lushness.  In this anticipated concert, she leads her 17 musicians in a marvelous evening of orchestral jazz.
