The author of the bestselling novel Cutting for Stone will speak on connections between medical practice and literature. After his talk, he will take questions from the audience and sign books. Dr. Verghese has also published two acclaimed memoirs: My Own Country: A Doctor's Story of a Town and Its People in the Age of Aids (1994) and The Tennis Partner: A Doctor's Story of Friendship and Loss (1999).
Dr. Verghese is Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor and Vice Chair for the Theory and Practice of Medicine at Stanford University’s School of Medicine.
