David Krakauer's Klezmer Madness

Past event

Scorching clarinet master David Krakauer and his New York-based quintet-one of the foremost ensembles of the new klezmer revival-joyfully fuse 400-year-old Eastern European Jewish music with elements of jazz, rock, experimental classical, and funk. As soulful as he is showy, Krakauer both preserves the roots of klezmer with its inflections of Yiddish language while keeping klezmer out of museums by writing new offbeat original pieces and improvising on older forms.

Critic's Comments

David Krakauer's Klezmer Madness, "music of uncontrollable joy fused with irrevocable pathos and nobody plays it better or with more soul than Krakauer and his band Klezmer Madness"

-Sequenza 21

"The yowling, swirling clarinet of David Krakauer leads the ensemble, and his performance in particular is stunning-he really bends a note tothrilling effect."
