Chico O'Farrill - Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra

Past event
Oct 25, 2003

Intoxicating Latin rhythms of the late, great Chico O'Farrill, played Sunday evenings for the last five years at New York City's Birdland Jazz Club, migrate to the Twin Cities in a celebratory concert three days before the master would have turned 82. The Havana-born trumpeter/bandleader (1921-2001) shaped the innovative Afro-Cuban and Latin sound in jazz of the '40s and '50s, composing for BennyGoodman, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and Machito. His remarkable legacy lives on with this 18-piece orchestra conducted by his son Arturo O'Farrill.
