The Cherokee Word for Water is a feature-length motion picture that tells the true story of the work that led Wilma Mankiller to become the first modern woman Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Set in the early 1980s, the film portrays the struggle for, opposition to, and ultimate success of a rural Cherokee community to bring running water to their families. The Cherokee Word for Water is a powerful and inspirational story about a remarkable woman and the power of community.
