Brain, the Wise Problem Solver

Dr. Apostolos Georgopoulos discuss how the brain deals with problems and challenges in space and time, and how various brain disorders affect this capacity. He also considers the effective adaptation of these mechanisms during the lifespan, so that the brain remains an effective problem solver in old age.

Apostolos Georgopoulos, Regents Professor of Neuroscience, is the director of the Center for Cognitive Sciences and of the Brain Sciences Center. He holds the McKnight Presidential Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and the American Legion Brain Sciences Chair. His research examines brain mechanisms of movement and cognition, functional brain biomarkers, and cortical networks.

During the first six weeks of the Northrop Grand Opening, the IAS is highlighting the work of the University-wide Interdisciplinary Centers (which include the IAS). The Center for Cognitive Sciences facilitates interdisciplinary research and teaching in cognitive science, providing its members with opportunities to share their insights on recent advances and develop interdisciplinary research collaborations.
