48th Annual James Ford Bell Lecture

Jonathan Spence, renowned China scholar and 2010 presenter of the prestigious Jefferson Lecture, will present this year's annual James Ford Bell Lecture on October 7, as part of the celebration of the Ricci map's arrival at the University of Minnesota.

Professor Spence is widely recognized as a leading scholar of Chinese history. On May 20th, he presented the 39th Annual Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities. The lecture, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, is the most prestigious honor the federal government bestows for distinguished intellectual achievement in the humanities. Among his many books: The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci.
