The illustrious all-star octet launched in 2004 by SFJAZZ (one of the Bay Area’s largest performing arts presenters and producer of the San Francisco Jazz Festival) pays its first visit to the Northrop Jazz Season. With dynamic saxist Joshua Redman as artistic director, the ensemble’s roster includes legendary vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, pianist Renee Rosnes, alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón, trombonist Andre Hayward, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland. Championing jazz as a living, ever-changing, and ever relevant art form, the Collective plays a new repertoire each year - works by top post-‘60s composers plus band members’ compositions.
