Enjoy a sparkling evening of Balanchine from this uniquely praised ballet company, whose artistic director, Suzanne Farrell, was Balanchine’s muse. The repertoire includes Balanchine’s enchanting one-act Swan Lake. Other company premieres on the program include Allegro Brillante for 10 dancers set to Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.3, of which Balanchine said “it contains everything I know about the classical ballet in 13 minutes” and Jerome Robbins’ The Concert (or The Perils of Everybody), set to music by Chopin.
In just over a decade, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet has evolved from an educational program of the Kennedy Center to a highly lauded ballet company. To date, the company has over 60 ballets in its repertoire, including works by Farrell’s mentors George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, and Jerome Robbins.
