Displays of the library's collection of Snow White and
Brothers Grimm materials. In addition to Snow White picture books featuring a
range of illustrators and textual interpretations from different time periods, there
will be a Snow White operetta, a book describing the making of the classic
Disney film, and several volumes of scholarly interpretations of the themes and
motifs of the Brothers Grimm.
Of local interest are Brothers Grimm tales freely translated
and illustrated by Minnesotan Wanda Gág and The Complete Fairy Tales of the
Brothers Grimm translated, and with an introduction by Jack Zipes, professor
emeritus, Center for German and European Studies at the UofM. Award-winning Gág
won a 1939 Caldecott medal for her translation and illustration of Snow White.

Preschool - grade 3 kids and their families will enjoy and
join in a short retelling of the Brothers Grimm version of the story by the
Mixed Precipitation theatre company, with music! Afterward, children will
participate in creating their own
fairy tale book with help from MN Center for Book Arts staff. Extra supplies
are available for enthusiastic participants to bring home for additional
book-making projects!
