GLOSS
Past event
Jul 31, 2013
Think about being alone in your favorite basement except it’s covered in velvet and ventilated so that it becomes privy to the sounds and smells of a late summer evening. Consider what it might feel like to be drenched in reverb and have an echo effect placed on everything you do—to become ghostly and transparent in an increasingly opaque world. Gloss is about creating a pervading feeling of staring out the window on a lonely train ride through a sunlit swamp that’s in full bloom. Bright, shiny guitars sparkling through a synthesizer haze and held up by a punchy rhythm section like one of those big dome tents with constellations lit up on the inside. Loud, swirling, and washed out, yet still jangly and intimate. Gloss is melancholy in a celebratory way: champions of isolation, heartache, and willful aloofness.
