Houston Culture

It never stops amazing me at how much culture and arts Houston has. Being a transplant from DC, I always figured Houston was just cowboys and swamps. Being down here for going on two years, it's amazing how wrong I really was!

Beautiful!

I thought the entire performance was beautiful. I would love to see more of them.

I must say that the program

I must say that the program was good at times. However, I have been following the Houston Ballet for many, many years. I can't help but to long for the Ben Stevenson era. The era of artistry or whimsical; I didn't feel that, and frankly I haven't felt that since Ben. The dancers now looked stark and machine like, great technicians...artist, no. Why? Is it Stanton? In my opinion, yes it is. I hope a change will soon come.

Houston Ballet-wonderful

I was enthralled by the Saturday performance of the Houston Ballet. I especially enjoyed "In the Night", and also "Rush". I thought the Houston was one of the highlights of this dance season. I enjoy the Northrop Dance Series, but the Houston is fantastic. My seats have been in the Balcony Sec 7 and I have had full view of the stage. Though the setting for dance is not the optimum, the Orpheum is still a beautiful building, and I enjoy it, as well as the performance. I am grateful that the Northrop has been able to continue with the Dance series, coordinating with the Orpheum and downtown Minneapolis. I consider it all 'new experience'. I too will be very excited when we bring these events back to Northrop and the U of M campus. Please bring back the Houston Ballet.

BEAUTIFUL BALLET by extremely talented dancers

I was mesmerized at times by the dancers by their preciseness of performance. Costumes were gorgeous, especially the vivid hues. The male dancers impressed me throughout as strong/athletic and extremely gifted. Indeed the female dancers also were "spot on" in all 3 pieces, although somewhat similar. The music was perfect! In total, an amazing trio of performances. I heard yells and "Bravos" from the audience in addition to the continued applause... revealing appreciation for the superb dancers. The Houston Ballet is welcome to Minneapolis any time... I will certainly attend!

Houston Ballet at the Orpheum

It was a superb evening of dance. The dances were excellent; the costumes were outstanding. The weak part of the evening was the program that we received. I would have liked to see the intermissions designated and told how long each one might be. More importantly, it would have enhanced the evening if there had been a brief description of what the choreographer was trying to achieve in each segment. The simple names like "Indigo" or "Rush" do not convey much information and could easily be misconstrued.

Houston Ballet Sat Eve

Loved the Jerome Robbins piece and Rush (Christopher Wheelon.) Dancers were spot on-but unfortunately the Orpheum sucks- the rise of the seating is just not adequate, you can't see the dancers feet if you are seated behind the average sized Minneosotan-perhaps if I were in the Balcony, it would be OK, but I find myself leaning and trying to sit forward to see.

Hurry up and get the Northrop done!

I really loved this

I really loved this performance. Northrop dance series are always enjoyable, but the Houston Ballet has been one of my favorites. I found the blend of classical and modern movement in One\end\One enormously compelling. Had some spine tingling moments during that piece. The other two pieces were also very strong and engaging. Overall, I found the Houston Ballet a very impressive company and I had a delightful evening.

Enjoyed the program

Typically with mixed reps programs I prefer one piece over another. With this program I thoroughly enjoyed everything. My only other feedback is the sound quality was poor especially during the Chopin number. We've noticed the this in past performances but felt it was more distracting with this program.

We thoroughly enjoyed the

We thoroughly enjoyed the Houston ballet, especially one-end-one. The dancing was so fluid and the costuming and lighting really enhanced the performances. The lighting on Rush was amazing, like a Rothko painting come to life. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Great night of dance

The Houston Ballet had a wonderful performance last night. The whole show was very tight and athletic. My thoughts were the same as another person already commented, the program wasn't as diverse as I would have liked. I liked the classical sound and costumes of ONE/end/ONE mixed with some more contemporary moves. Indigo was lovely with some elements of Indian and belly dance. I noted the deconstruction moves as I recently saw another contemporary work featuring deconstruction which can make a work look fresher. I especially enjoyed Rush, although I'm not sure I followed the storyline. The costumes were wonderful and fluid. The dancers were fully engaged and enjoying themselves as much as the audience enjoyed the work. They somehow can make it look effortless. It seemed to end very abruptly, unfortunately. The lighting on that piece was very subtle but added to the lovely performance.

Houston Ballet

We thoroughly enjoyed the Houston Ballet's performance on Friday evening. The company combined precision and gracefulness with energy and athleticism. The costumes were wonderful, particularly the rich hued, multi-colored costumes in "Rush". We loved the music selections, as well. While all three pieces were excellent, "Indigo" and "Rush" stood out.

We enjoyed the evening last

We enjoyed the evening last night, and the dancers were certainly very talented, however, we wished that the three productions had been more diverse. They had a sameness about them, especially the first two.
